Refunds, Cancellations & Returns Policy

1. Introduction
At The Carbon Effect, every piece is crafted with intention and attention to detail. Because most of our jewellery is custom-made to your specifications, it’s important to understand how refunds, cancellations, and returns are handled.
This policy applies to all purchases made via our website thecarboneffect.co.za. By placing an order, you agree to the terms outlined below.
2. Refunds
2.1 Custom Orders
- All custom orders are final sale.
- Refunds are not available for custom-made items unless a verified manufacturing defect is present.
2.2 Manufacturing Defects
- If you believe your item has a manufacturing fault, notify us in writing at info@thecarboneffect.co.za within 7 days of delivery.
- Items must be:
- Unused
- In their original condition
- Returned with original packaging and certificates (if any)
- Once inspected and confirmed, we will offer either:
- A full refund, or
- A replacement piece at no extra cost
3. Cancellations
3.1 Order Cancellations
- Production begins shortly after your order is placed.
- Cancellations are only possible before production starts.
3.2 How to Cancel
- To request cancellation, email info@thecarboneffect.co.za with your order number and reason.
- We’ll confirm if production has started and whether cancellation is possible.
- If approved, refunds will be processed back to your original payment method within 10 business days.
4. Returns
4.1 Non-Custom Items
- For non-custom items, returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery.
- Items must be unused, in original condition, and include all original packaging.
- Return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility.
4.2 Return Process
- Contact us at info@thecarboneffect.co.za with your order number and reason.
- We will issue a Return Authorisation Number (RAN) and instructions.
- Refunds are processed within 14 business days of receiving and inspecting the returned item.
4.3 Exchanges
- We do not offer direct exchanges.
- To exchange, please return the item for a refund and place a new order.
5. Shipping Costs
5.1 Return Shipping
- Customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless:
- The item is defective, or
- The return is due to an error on our part.
5.2 Original Delivery Fees
- Original shipping fees are non-refundable, except where:
- A manufacturing defect is verified, or
- An error on our part occurred.
6. Limitations & Exclusions
Please note, refunds and returns cannot be accepted in the following cases:
- Items damaged due to misuse, neglect, or improper care
- Normal wear and tear (e.g., scratches, tarnishing)
- Resized, altered, or repaired items not performed by The Carbon Effect
- Sale or discounted items marked as “Final Sale”
