Diamond Specifications affect Pricing

Know as the 4 C’s of Diamond Grading, the Clarity, Cut, Colour and Carat determine the Diamond’s value. These are the Diamond specifications.

Colour

A diamond's colour is measured from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow tint).

Diamond Colour

A Diamond’s colour also impacts its brilliance and overall appearance. This measurement determines the absence of colour, as the highest-quality Diamonds are colourless. Diamonds are graded from D (colourless) to Z (tints of Yellow or Brown).

Carat

A diamonds Carat is the standard unit of weight used for precious stones/gems.

Diamond’s Carat

A big misconception is that a Diamond’s carat determines its value. Carat actually refers to a Diamond’s weight, with one carat being equal to 200 milligrams. While bigger Diamonds are supposedly more rare/valuable, the Cut, Clarity and Colour determine the overall value.

Diamond Specifications

The selection of a high-quality stone depends on understanding Diamond specifications which follow the industry standard 4C’s: cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. The cut of a Diamond determines its sparkle level because optimal proportions create the most brilliance. The colour grading system starts with D for colourless and ends with Z for light yellow in the stone. The clarity grade shows the number of internal or external flaws in the stone, ranging from flawless to included. The weight and size of the Diamond are determined by its carat measurement.
