Can lab grown Diamonds get scratched?
Yes, lab grown Diamonds can get scratched, but it’s pretty unlikely. Like natural diamonds, lab grown Diamonds are made up of carbon atoms that give them the same hardness rating as mined diamonds (10 on the Mohs scale). This means they can only be scratched by another Diamond or a material of equal or greater hardness. While they are highly resistant to scratches, they are not entirely impervious to damage and should still be handled with care to avoid accidental damage. Certain chemical substances can tarnish lab-grown Diamonds.
Do lab grown Diamonds hold value?
These Diamonds do hold value, but this value is usually lower than that of natural Diamonds. What is Moissanite?
Moissanite is a gemstone that is often used as a Diamond alternative due to its brilliance, durability, and affordability. Natural Moissanite is extremely rare as is is only found in Meteorite debris. Most Moissanite available today are lab-created, designed to mimic the appearance of Diamonds. Although it looks similar to a Diamond, Moissanite has distinct optical properties that give it more fire and sparkle. On the Mohs scale of hardness, Moissanite ranks at 9.25, making it highly durable and suitable for everyday wear, including engagement rings. However, it is chemically different from Diamonds, as Moissanite is composed of silicon carbide, while Diamonds are made of carbon.

Diamonds are the hardest of gems, with Moissanites being graded as the second hardest gem on the Mohs Scale.
